God is. This statement is a declaration of faith. There is no empirical evidence for the existence of God. God cannot be proven in a test tube or by any scientific evidence. The reality of God is strictly faith based. This is not to say that a rational argument cannot be made for the existence of God. It indeed can be. The design of the universe itself declares that a divine mind was behind what we know as the universe. "The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork. Day unto day uttereth speech, and night unto night sheweth knowledge. There is no speech nor language, where their voice is not heard." Psalms 19:1-3. Creative design is inherent in the heavens, the planets, the stars, and the earth itself. All works according to precision and with exactness. Happenstance is not accepted in any other sphere of reality and, certainly, should not be in the existence of the universe. Architectural design demands an architect. But, when all is said and done, the reality of God is still faith based. God is because I believe that He is. "We walk by faith and not by sight." II Corinthians 5:7.
But, you and I live in a society that has chosen to replace the existence of God with pleasure. Our day and time loves pleasure. The Bible affirms that the last days will be a time when we are "lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God." II Timothy 3:4. This is known as hedonism. Moses chose to "suffer affliction with the people of God, than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season." Hebrews 11:24. Everyone will eventually become too aged to enjoy even simple pleasures. The indulgence of pleasure will make us old before our time. Some eat too much, drink too much, smoke too much, and party too much. They finally discover that they are unable to do those things. Pleasure does not last.
We have also replaced a faith in God with power and money. The rich and powerful do not want to accept the truthfulness of God because He interferes with their lifestyle. But, money and power are fleeing commodities of life. An ex-president tries to stay in the spotlight because of the thirst for power and recognition. He attained the pinnacle of power in our country, but the stay was brief. What more can now be done? In a short time, he will be forgotten. Howard Hughes died feeble and broken. He weighed only 88 pounds when he died. All the money that he had, if converted to one dollar bills and stacked one on the other, would reach more than 200 miles into the stratosphere. Money and power do not provide any lasting stability.
A faith based life launches us into the realm of the unseen. "While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal (temporary); but the things which are not seen are eternal." II Corinthians 4:18. This was the choice of Moses. "For he endured, as seeing him who is invisible." Hebrews 11:27. Moses knew that the kingship of Egypt would be short-lived. He knew that the wealth of Egypt would not provide any firm foundation for a viable lifestyle. Egypt was temporary; God was, and is, eternal. That is the difference between the faith based life and the test tube life.
No, God cannot be proven. Not even the Bible seeks to prove God. "In the beginning, God..." Genesis 1:1. "God..." Hebrews 1:1. The Bible does not prove God or assume God. It declares God. The Bible is a book for the faith based life. "Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear." Hebrews 11:3. God and those who believe in Him live with the view and understanding of the unseen. I believe, and therefore, God is.
